Chuck Romance Scoop!

"Love is in the air on NBC's Chuck, but it probably won't transfer over to the bedroom in the SF show's upcoming second season. Unlikely hero Chuck Bartowski (Zachary Levi)--he's the nerdy guy with a top-secret database downloaded into his brain--and super-sexy CIA agent Sarah Walker (Yvonne Strahovski) did the will-they/won't-they dance pretty much all last season, the NBC show's freshman season. But Levi told SCI FI Wire that the dance will continue in the upcoming sophomore year, despite the fact that fans want to see the characters together.
"The writers are very smart and know that people like the tension, but [also] that once you give into it--once you give the people what they say they want--then they become bored with it very quickly," Levi said in an interview.
"It's the Ross-and-Rachel [of Friends] syndrome." Still, count on sparks between the telegenic couple, Levi said. "There will definitely be chemistry, and there always will, because from day one--even though these two characters are very, very different, and even though Sarah was playing Chuck when she first met him--they do share an incredible connection and bond," he said. "And her being his bodyguard, or one of his two bodyguards, makes that even more interesting."
Levi added that--at least in the episodes he's filmed so far--the "undertone of love and attraction" remains between Chuck and Sarah. But it's not acted upon. And it won't be, thereby keeping that an option for later on in Chuck's run. In the meantime, the characters are free to explore other romantic possibilities. "They have to quickly talk about it and say, 'I don't know if this is going to work right now, but who knows what the future holds,'" Levi said.
"That leaves it open for Chuck to possibly have other love interests and for Sarah to have other love interests. That's where Jordana Brewster comes in. She plays my ex-girlfriend [Jill], who broke my heart in college. That allows for a little more room to play. If you walk into a relationship, then you're there and you have to see that through." Chuck returns for its second season on Sept. 29 at 8 p.m. ET/PT with the episode "Chuck vs. the First Date." (NBC is owned by NBC Universal, which also owns SCIFI.COM.)
