True Blood Season Two Scoop!

Ok. With next week being the Season One finale of True Blood, I thought we could discuss a bit of Book two of The Sookie Stackhouse books which will ultimately become Season Two of True Blood.

I noticed in the preview for the finale next week, that they are already setting up some of the major themes in Charlaine Harris' second book "Living Dead In Dallas".

Here's a small decent recap I found on Amazon (reminder of MAJOR SPOILERS!!):

The last thing Sookie wanted was to find Lafayette Reynold's body in the back Andy Bellefleur's car. Lafayette was the cook at Merlotte's Bar, where Sookie waited on tables. Andy was a police detective who left his car at the bar because he was too drunk to drive it home. Now Bon Temps, Louisiana is a small rural town, where murders are mercifully rare. However, anything like this is bound to be a major headache for Sookie, who is telepathic, and whose boyfriend is Vampire Bill, the town's major predator. Make that ex-predator; Bill is one of the good people, getting his nourishment from artificial blood these days. As does any vampire who wants to fit into the mainstream world.

But a simple murder case is not enough. Before Sookie and Bill can look into Lafayette's death, Eric, the local vampire leader, summons them to Shreveport. Eric has agreed to send them to Dallas, where Sookie's telepathic talents are needed to solve a disappearing vampire problem. Even before they get to Shreveport, stuff happens. Sookie has a run in with a Maenad, who wants tribute from Eric, and decides to write him a note about it on Sookie's back. Bill barely gets Sookie to Eric's lair, where she can be healed. Don't expect Dallas to be any better. There, Sookie finds herself in conflict the local anti-vampire club, 'The Fellowship of the Sun,' and scheduled for sacrifice.

Now for those who don't know, the Maenad is the new character played by Michelle Forbes (BSG), who was standing nude in the road with the pig causing Tara to crash and then surprisingly bailing her out of jail under pretense.

I also noticed in the preview that while Jason is in jail, he is approached by someone who gives him a pamphlet for the "Fellowship of the Sun" which is a sort of cult in which vampires commit suicide publicly by walking into sunlight. Now in the book Jason has no part in this, but obviously they want him involved in Season Two so that was a big change.

Plus I think it seems the Maenad will be taking Tara under her wing which could lead anywhere.....

So what do you guys think will change and what will remain the same? Feel free to leave a comment to discuss or ask questions!

I have 7 books of Charlaine Harris and I've just finished book 2, "Living Dead in Dallas". They have changed some of the book in Season 1. I was so confused watching some of the last episodes that I went back to the book to check if I missed anything. The ending and the Season Finale, as far as the murderer goes, will be the same. It doesn't have anything in the book regarding Bill in the sunlight. I think that they added that change. I skimmed through all the books; and Book #3 is the last book that Vampire Bill is mentioned. In Book 4 ""Dead to the World"; he leaves for Peru and isn't in the whole book. He isn't a part of any the books after # 3, "Club Dead". He reminds me of "Angel" from " Buffy". I wonder if they will change that in the upcoming seasons since he has a huge fan following?

Yeah there's alot of differences and alternate storylines which is nice because a reader of the books doesn't neccessarily know whats going to happen every step of the way.

But since Jason and Tara have become very prominent characters with their own storylines this year and in addition to what we've seen for next week's finale, I think its great they're incorperating them into actual storylines from the book.

Now thats a good point about Bill becoming a more background figure in the books, but see how they added the whole "maker" storyline for him so that will definitely be a big thing for him next year I would think, keeping him well involved with True Blood's mythology.

But I guess time will tell what they decide to keep and throw away.

you need to read the books before assuming bill is gone, he leaves for peru in the 4th book but comes back at the end and hes in every book since. him and sookie havnt gotten back together (yet) but hes far from excluded from the plot.
i dont know how they are going to do the second season but im a little antsy as to jessicas involvement, because she wasnt in the books and its been leaked that she will be a prominent character in season 2

i only read thru book 2, but I doubt that book 2 will be the main driver of season 2. Too much of the book happens in Dallas, and pulls Sookie away from many supporting characters in Bon Temp. So, I think at best, book 2 will be an inspiration, rather than the blue print for the show as book 1 was...

Anonymous said...

That's a good point as well, how in the book Sookie spends alot of time in Dallas or say, Shreveport. Either they will slowly have the show flip back and forth between places or they'll accomodate by switching the location or storylines. Either is fine really right?

Anonymous said...

So what's the connection between Maryann and Sam?

Anonymous said...

In the book, Sam and Maryann (the Maenad) "hook up".

Anonymous said...

Can someone explain to me what a maenad is? thanks@

Anonymous said...

A Maenad is a figure in Greek mythology. They are woman who worship the god Dionysus, the Greek god of mystery, wine, and intoxication. They are known to be wild, insane women who cannot be reasoned with. The mystery of Dionysus inspired the women into ecstatic frenzy; they indulged in copious amounts of violence, bloodletting, sexual activity, self-intoxication, and mutilation. So whomever the new character is she cannot be good at all!

in respone to elizmas, i think you should re-read the books because yes Bill is barely in the 3rd book (b/c he was kidnapped) and the 4th book (b/c he was in Peru) but he was mentioned a lot and returns in book 5. i think the show is great and of course i am hooked but from someone who is reading the books i am a little disappointed that they did not keep to the books more.

Anonymous said...

In the 4th book there is a part where Sookie had just said Bill was out of town and he responds saying he had just made it back which she was unaware of... he's part of the the next huge scene there. I'd definately reread it if you missed that whole part...

Anonymous said...

Well I have not read the books, but might. The show is definately Sookie and Bill. They have been parted before for a short time and have gotten back together. So I don't see them permanently parting if they want the show to go on.There are other interesting people in the show, but Sookie and Bill make it what it is.

Anonymous said...

Well don't read this unless you want to be spoiled, but in the books Bill hurts Sookie emotionally and then she has a few different relationships with different supernatural beings, all the while Bill is trying to win her back.

So in the books, the seperation of Sookie/Bill is a constant plotline because he is constantly confessing his love to her but she is too hurt( for now at least) to give him a second chance.

I have enjoyed the adaption to a point of the novels, but am disapointed about a few things. Where's Bubba? He is a thread thru all the books and at times a wonderful thread, and at others he is the only thing that stands at Sookie's defence. When did Tara switch race? I enjoy the character they have created but they have screwed themselves for adapting the later novels, as Tara is a driving force in them (actually her sheer stupidity is). I have a feeling that books two and three will be the basis of season two, making it possible for Sookie and Bill to go to Dallas, as the plot will only last 4 or 5 episodes. There is no King of Louisiana, it's a Queen and again not sure the plot change was really needed. Bill has more than enough to cause problems between him and Sook in his past, without creating a teenage vampire acting badly. And while the characterization of Pam is right on the money, they need to seriously work on Eric. He needs to be more: more intimidating, more sexy more likely to reach out and do what he shouldn't.
Sam's great, as is Terry(although they need to cut the simple and reach for barely contained disturbed) If anyone has yet to read the books, do it they are absolutely Fab and make the series more fun to watch.

MrsB108 said...

Does anyone think Eric and Pam will get more screen time next season?

Anonymous said...

I hope so mrsb108.

musicfishdiva - I couldn't agree with you more. It does make me want to go back and reread the books!! They are great and the show is turning out well.

Amy said...

does anyone know when the new book is coming out in '09??? i demolished all 8 books in a week and it's killing me that i cant read more lol

and i agree with you, they need to bring in bubba and stick more to the books. and i can't wait to see who they're gonna get to play quinn :O) i really hope HBO sticks with this series to get through all the books.

Anonymous said...

The next book "Dead and Gone" is scheduled for release in May of '09.

I'm totally disappointed with the Eric character. I've read all the books and I was totally in love with him. This guy they have playing him is just wrong and his character is just not right. I understand the series is taking on a seperate life in many aspects but Eric is a main character and I just wanted him to be more like he is in the books. Hopefully as the series progresses he will improve.

I CAN'T wait for Quinn either!

Amy said...

yeah i know what you mean. yeah, Alexander SkarsgÄrd is hot is his own way but i dont see him as eric. he just doesn't look like a "viking" even though he is Swedish. He just looks like a girly man to me lol i expected eric to be more buff

but now that they have him as eric, i can't really picture anyone else in that role

Anonymous said...

I really do hope that they put Eric in more next season. I agree that they didn't choose the best guy to play him...but I also think that he does his best trying to portray Eric. But Eric is my absolute FAVORITE character. I can't wait until they start into book 4 when he is like the main character!!!

Anonymous said...

I didn't read the books until after I watched the entire first season of True Blood, so I really only pictured the people who play the characters on the show. And I have been in love with Eric since the first second he was on screen, not even knowing what his role in the series would be. So I think he must be doing a good job. I can understand if you read the books first, you have a certain picture in your mind of a big Viking like Thor or something. But I read the entire series picturing Alexander as Eric and it worked for me. I read book 4 twice. I hope they stick to that story line.

Also, it looks like (or maybe I'm just hoping) he'll be having more of a role in the 9th book as he seems to be bringing up a lot of what happened in book 4. He wanted to continue talking to her about that at the end of book 8. So yay!!!!

Anonymous said...

In the books, Bill takes a backseat to Eric as far as storyline goes. I mean he is there and present in Sookies life but is not making the impact that he once was in books one and two. I think the show will follow this though it may take time or additional storylines (like the newly turned brat vamp) to aid in Sookie's gradual seperation to Bill to leave room for Eric to become more prominent as he is in the books.

Anonymous said...

spoilers in this post!!!

musicfishdiva i was just wondering the same thing... where the hell is bubbly!!! also i don't like the name and lifestyle change of Maenad why do her and Sam apparently already know each other... i also don't like the Tara character... what was with all the deamons and both her parents are dead so look forward to that in season 2!!! also i love Eric... he is my second favorite character... i am also very happy with the way things end up with bill... i have not liked him since book 1 really... but i cant wait for Quinn and Alacide... some much more happens in the upcoming novels then in the first one... and yes i think season 2 should be books 2 and 3!!! also looking forward to may for the new book!!!

Anonymous said...

Also where the hell did the middle name of Thomas come in... his name is not William Thomas Compton... his name is William Erasmus Compton... so is Thomas just a more southern civil war sounding name or what???

Anonymous said...

I love the book and i do share the same feelings as some of you guys here regarding the show. the thing with Eric, he does look girlish in the series. I love Alcide's character and Bill and Eric's too. Sookie is one lucky girl! I'm excited for season 2!!!

Anonymous said...

Well anyway, that should be VERY interesting, but U GUYS SHOULD NEVER POST THAT!!!!!!
I know that you said SPOILER ALERT!, but still u should stop and think that saying SPOILER ALERT! is a HUGE teptation for me and anyone else. SO next time I'll probably leave another comment...so just STOP & THINK!!!! Or atleast try anyway...thanks bye!!!

Anonymous said...

Um, thats a joke right???

Anyways, I really hope Sookie/Eric get their screen time. Though Sookie and Sam have sparkage in the books, I find its a small amount to the screen time they actually got. So they could comepletly alter the Sookie relationships to do whatever the hell they want. I just hope its not always Bill in the tv show.

Anonymous said...

OMG! I need to buy the books. I haven't read them and I'm totally addicted to the series. I'm watching the same shows over and over again to get my fix. lol I can't wait until season two!

MrsB108 said...

I totally recommend reading the books. (especially if the waiting between seasons proves too long for you!) The books bring a new aspect to watching the show and you can wonder and anticipate which storylines they'll stay true to and which they'll completely veer off course with.

Plus, when you have the two sources to get your True Blood fix from, if the tv show does something you don't like then perhaps the book version will follow more in the suit (or ship!) you really wanted to see. Thats just an example mind you.

Oh my God how I love this series. I absolutely love the characters Bill and Sookie. But I agree with the person who said that if you read the books first you have the image of that particular person in your head. Sometimes it's hard to match up actor with how the characters are described in the books.
I received the first 3 books as a gift and afterseeeing the series I dove right into them. I can't wait to read the rest of them.

Anonymous said...

I started reading the series half way throught the first season of Trueblood. I'm so anxious for Book 9 that I stalked Charlaine Harris's website and read the first chapter...super cool.
Anyways, I think I'd like to see Billy Zane play Quinn...just add violet contacts.
As for Eric, the Trueblood character is not seductively dangerous...maybe he's just a bad actor.

Anonymous said...

I love the Sookie Stackhouse novels and i can't wait for Season 2 to come out :) but im really anxious to see the 4th book in the series. Which i find is my favorite so far. I love Eric and once you read "Dead to the World" you'll see what I mean.

Anonymous said...

Okay, I'm wondering when season 2 starts. I've read all the books out so far. I came addicted to them about 3 years ago. I love the show except for a few things. 1st-Too much sex. I mean the books are not filled with all that crap. I have to send my daughter to her room and bed early before the show comes on to make sure she does see that stuff. (she's almost 11). Then I have to hold the remote the whole time for the MUTE button for when the sex scenes come on. ALSO I read that Robert Pattinson (Twilights-Edward Cullen) tried out for the show and was turned down. THATS CRAZY and I bet they are really regretting that now, since he's like the biggest star out there right now (AND ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS-and after seeing Rob in Twilight, I just can't find BILL attractive at all. He's dull and old looking. Eric looks like a tall sissy. Nothing like the books describe him. Sam is perfect. I was unsure about Anna Paguin as Sookie. She's just not....well, pretty, to be honest. BUT she does a great job acting and I've come to love her in the show. Tara was a BIG CHANGE I think. Overall though I love the show and even my husband (WHO DOES NOT READ AND PICKS ON ME ABOUT READING VAMPIRE NOVELS) HE loves it. We never missed an episode. When does season 2 start?????

Anonymous said...

Once you read all the books and then watch the show, some things are disapointing. I don't think Alexander was a great pick for Eric specially since he becomes a love interest for Sookie later on the books, but maybe on the second season they will make him more scarry and dominant. My favorite character is Quinn but I don't think Charlaine Harris is bringing him back on the next book. He sounds so hot on the book.. OH and By the way there IS A LOT OF SEX in the books, you need to read them again, that teh whole reason why I read all the books. You need to read them again, specially book 4 and 6.
Oh if I could pick I wish they would cast either John Sena or Vin Diesel (Harris inspiration for the Character) as John Quinn.

Anonymous said...

Hey people. I believe True Blood Season 2 starts at the beginning of this summer.

Amy said...

book 9 and season 2 are 'supposed' to start in May (so i've been told)

Anonymous said...

okay does no one remember when Eric loses his memory? And the way he's talking to her in book 7 now... Bill so doesn't stand a chance to him when it comes to Vampires.

Wasn't the book 5, maybe 6. But I swear if they alter that part of the books I can't bring myself to watch the show anymore

And the book comes out in May! ;]

Anonymous said...

I disagree about Sam, what drives me bonkers the most is how Sookie in the book always talks about Sams hair, and that is not his hair! I think his character needed broader shoulders too, but not as big as Quinn which I hope he is cast with very broad shoulders.

I think Eric is my favorite although did I miss something in the last book.. was it Quinn that betrayed her? I didn't feel it was betrayal but the front cover said someone she loved betrayed her. unless I completely missed an entire chapter or two

Anonymous said...

I have read all of the books and they are amazing. Bill does come back into the book series. I suggest that everyone reads the books before watching the TV show.

Anonymous said...

I love all the books, even though i kind of felt bad for bill, becuase you get so used to him, he seemed so perfect for her.... but w/e because i like eric better and i hope that in the 9th book they get back together, with his memory intact. and i was confused when i watched the tv show after i read all the books, just because of tara's whole "demon" problem. a KING of LA? i like judith/the queen better even though andre is horrible. and bill being a maker. if they keep cutting out stuff and trying to fill it in with something they must have gotten out of a hat... kinda makes me not even want to see season 2. i only want to watch it because i want to see if they can pull all this mish mash off. but i can't wait until the 9th book.. may is far away p.s i agree that quinn should be billy zane

KT said...

On Bill's middle name...it changes throughout the first few books, so I thought it was a play on that to give him yet another middle name when he speaks to the club on the show. Was it also different when they showed his grave?

Bubba-I wonder if there is a copyright issue there, since Harris never uses his real name in the books, just works around it.

Eric-I was put off by Eric in the first book, too, so I think they'll take the second, or maybe even third, season to develop him into the Eric we now know and love in the books.

This teenage chick has got to go. I have no problem with plot changes, but she is too annoying. Plus, the whole experience with the king changed the way the vamps are trying to portray themselves in the books. It doesn't show them as classy and organized, as the books do. If this is the structure now, how can we later attend a conference and a ball, and have it make sense?

MrsB108 said...

Good point about the copyright issue and Bubba.

Anonymous said...

As far as the guy at the tribunal thing being the king, he wasn't. They called him the Magister. That bothered me at first too, but I rewatched the episode and he's not the king. If you go to the HBO/True Blood website and read the synopsis of episode 10, they talk about him briefly. So hopefully they'll stick to Sophie-Anne as the queen of Louisiana. :)

MrsB108 said...

And hopefully they stick to the story of what happens to the Queen in the book as well. I can scarcely imagine what a sick scene that would be.

Anonymous said...

Small Spoiler at end...I'm going to give Alexander Skarsgard a chance as Eric. At first, I thought he just wasn't buff enough, hot enough, etc... for the role, but now I see his face and hear his voice when I re-read the books. He's obviously grown on me. I do think they need to bring out his sense of humor more. In the books he's always cracking on someone. Eric is supposed to be irresistibly charming and vivacious, with a killer smile. We haven't seen that side of him in the TV series yet at all. I also wonder how they're going to rectify changing who killed Longshadow for book 5, which basically hinges on Charles' revenge against Eric.

Anonymous said...

Was Vin Diesel really Harris' inspiration? That's funny because he's EXACTLY who I pictured when I was reading it. Frankly, I think Billy Zane would be terrible as Quinn. He's way too "pretty" if you know what I mean. Frankly, I won't be able to take anyone seriously other than Diesel in that part. It was (literally) written for him.

Anonymous said...

I cant believe anyone would even suggest not using Robert Pattinson was a mistake- he was absolutely awful in twilight and possibly has the worst american accent I have ever heard. Also, good call having your ten year old daughter watch the show... honestly what did you expect?

Anonymous said...

Yeah I don't think the actor who portrays Eric has gotten much of a chance to prove himself in the role yet so hopefully if his character gets more screen time during Season Two, than a fair decision can be made as to whether he suits the role.

But in my opinion, so far he does.

Anonymous said...

I agree with KT on the final point: Even before I read the books, my husband and I were both put off by the tribunal scene. I mean really... an abandoned junkyard? Private proceedings in a stately mansion would have made MUCH more sense, in the context. And now that I've read all eight of the books, the venue Alan Ball chose for that particular plot embellishment seems even more grossly inappropriate. (Not to say that he hasn't done plenty of things RIGHT... and in my opinion, casting Alexander Skarsgard was one of them. I definitely hope to see more of him next season.)

Anonymous said...

As an Idea I may have a thought as to how Jessica will play out. In the first book, Bill doesn't ask Sam to watch Sookie, he asks "Bubba." Since maybe television doesn't want to upset anyone by making him appear to be as in the book, they will use Jessica instead as the underlying character... maybe just a little more disobedient (and not dieting on cats)... Just an idea though. Who knows. I'm excited for Season two. I've read all the books and am a huge fan so seeing the changes in the show weren't bad, they kept you locked on because they were different. This also helps people who haven't read the book kind of get more into the show I believe. Who knows.

Anonymous said...

i agree. u need to read the books first.

i was wondering, does anybody know who this Bubba is? i wish Alan did get his character on the tv series, he is such a warm character... makes one want to take care of him... i have a slight clue but... hmm...
anyways about the tv series, i saw the episodes before reading the books and i was completely overwhelmed by it. although now that i've read 5 books, i find the series quite misleading. i wish they have gotten other actress than Anna Paquin. Since i saw the series first it was quite easy to imagine the characters, although Anna doesn't quite fit in, i guess. and i also wish Eric could be more active and provocative as he is on the books. (not that i don't like the actor...)
can't wait to watch 2nd season and i am sad to admit these series has taken my nights as it's addictive and overwheling.

OMG! Please kill off that horrible Jessica!!!!! Where the heck did that come from. I don't even want to see season 2 now with her in it. I understand having a few changes in the show like all the sex and Tara. Even the fact Tara's mom is alive and they both have lots of air time, but please this is too much. I really think when you are making a show or movie from such a popular book you should try to keep things as similar as possible. I mean it's already popular why mess with it? And could Eric please get a sense of humor? Where are all the funny bits from the books? Also, I miss Bubba!!!!!!

Totally love Alexander Skarsgard as Eric, can't get enough of him. Absolutely sick of Jason and his sex romp, especially that crap with Amy. Get back to the main story please!

i LOVE the character they got to play eric northman. he is drop dead gorgeous (bite me bite me) just kidding. anyway im more curious about the story with mary ann. originally i heard she was supposed to be the maenad (sort of a greek version of a stereotypical witch) but then i heard that she is going to be a new creature. the show has a habbit of intigrating the characters in the books into the characters of the movie differently. maybe she is supposed to represent a maenad/witch thing. or something else. anyway i think shes cool, funny, even if she is an antagonist. the way she acted with the police officer when her car was in front of the police station door, she new his name and smiled when he cursed in her face. (haha shes so funny). ANYWAY, reply to my post. i too have a fix to the series ;) *~Rowan

Amy said...

this is so completely off topic i guess but your name just reminded me of ann rice's character in the witching hour series "Rowan Mayfair" and then that got me wondering if Charlaine Harris got her inspiration for Quinn at least partly from Rice's Vampire Series or maybe it's just a coincidence.

Anonymous said...

haha yeah i get that comment all the time. my myspace url is witchinghour100 matter of fact. rowan is my middle name by the way. my first is Isobella. and yeah thats one of my favorite books. anne rice is cool. but now im more into charlene harris, mostly becuase her vampires books arent the size of the bible. but yeah. what do you think will happen with tara and mary ann. its soooo cool to meet with other true blood fanatics. and yeah, im dieing to see ALOT of eric and sookie. if she dont want him ill take em. ;) (fanged smile)

omo, now that i've read all 8 books i really can't wait for the 9th! it's exciting, plus eric is a big plus to the plot ^^
as for the series, good choice for the actors, they all look good. and yea, agree with Danie: Bubba could be in the series.
can't wait to see what comes next! and please, make eric a little bit more... interesting... like in the books XD
(kidding =P)
anyways wish the books were bigger. i'd be still be reading by now... which would be awesome because i'm deprived from the story and i'm dead curious about it XD

I've enjoy reading what you've written about the books and "motive" me to read it too.
Oh, do you know a date of tvshow of the season 2? Are we sure that there will be a season 2?
Thank you for your response.

Book 9 is supposed to come out May 5. You can order an advanced copy from amazon. I believe they have Season 2 of True Blood somewhat corresponding with the release of the 9th book. Either way, I know season 2 starts in May.

As far as breaks from the plot of the book, I agree somewhat. They are annoying. But I'm trying really hard not to be annoyed because I understand that they have to add in bigger plotlines for other people. The books are entirely from Sookie's point of view and we never see what's going on with other people when Sookie is not around. That's not practical for a television show. So they have to make plot-lines for these people. Again, I do think it's a little annoying. But as long as they stick to what I think is the main story line that connects all the books (Sookie and Eric's growing connection), I'll be fine. Also, I think Alexander is great for the Eric role. Go back and re-read the books picturing him as Eric like the other person said. You'll like him more once you do that.

Has anyone read the new casting call on the front page? The two flashbacks to Norsemen sound like the Queen's guards from the book, no?

As I Remember in the early books we are tricked in to thinking Eric is this dark evil Seducer and manipulator only to find out that Eric is this dark noble hero And Bill has been lying and tricking Sookie. And might love her but was ordered to protect her with his life and enslave her for his Queen. The Royal edict. He had no chose but sacrifice him self to save her(proving that if the reader was fooled then so would Sookie.)Yes I liked him, still do but it was all a setup and he's as big a lier as Rene maybe bigger.
I think the TV Bill is no different as he knows his blood can addict and drive mad but has taken every opportunity to get her hooked on it. If so it's a safe bet that Eric true colors as a Nobel Honorable Hero will be revealed ( muck to his great shame and horror.)
My point is Eric is exactly like in the fist book ,A evil scary snake. (mostly a lie,Eric's no saint)The reason Sookie likes vamps is becouse they can hide what they think and who they are. Some thing she will curse as secrets and lies unravel.
And find the man she loves is a lier and the man she will fear loves her.

I really really really hope that Eric and Sookies relationship plays out in the second season as it does in the books. I love love love Eric. That relationship has so much tension built up. I can't wait to see what happens in book nine. I read the first chapter off of Charlaine Harris website and I can hardly contain myself in waiting for more Sookie! I finished the books before the end of season one in like a week and am dying for more. I can't take it!!!

I am surprised at some of the comments about some of the male leads. Alexander Skarsgard is fantastic as Eric, his sense of humour and character will develope as it does in the books. Also Stephen Moyer as Bill is perfect! we have had 8 books to create our own fantasy vamps and Alexander has only had a few scenes to fulfil those fantasies.

Hey, as one who went to school with kids of norse decent Alexander is right on for a viking. The viking raiders were usually covered in furs which gave them the bulky look.

I have been a huge fan of these books for a long time. I have a hard time waitin between books. I am now rereading them. I don't think they missed with the casting of Eric. He is sort of what I imagined when reading the book. I know some people don't like that Jason has more of a role in the show than the books but I like it. Typical Southern good ole boy who can't stay away from trouble. I wonder if they will stick to the whole werepanther, Chrystal, and Hot Shot storyline with him that is in the later books.

Unknown said...

Just like all of you, I dislike Eric's character in the show. They should have cast someone more gorgeous and not so dull, but I guess I am willing to give Alex a chance 2nd season. The sad thing is Alex is more attractive in real life than in the show.
I cannot wait for Alcide!
As for Bubba...why couldn't they still not mention he is "Elvis" in the show just like the book, it really doesn't make sense.

Does anyone know when the 2nd season comes out?

From all of Allan Ball's shows, he likes to twist them up, I think when he put a little bit of all 8 books, in season 1 and he's coming back in season 2 for the Attack and Dallas...basically I think he is just taking main plots and putting his twist on it..We have Jason joining the fots..And AVL is also big in the show...As the show takes on other character's pov, Sookie's pov will start to change to coincide with all the other characters. the Jessica character will effect the Sookie and Bill relationship, either it will bring them together stronger or it will tear them apart...Jessica is part her fault too...So if they all form a family bond..Because Bill feels Both Ladies and each alittle different. Eric he has 5 dead vampires in his Area that ,he is in charge of and if Jessica's parents charge Bill with kidnapping, then Eric has more problems because this went down in his area....Tara she was fooled by a woman she doesn't even know, didn't anyone tell her nothing in life is free...well air is free.. Sam where is he going with all that money, paying tribute to marianne, what if she sends Sam a message on Sookies back, after all what killed or took Lafayette, a wild pig..and Tara is staying at her house they all have one thing in common Sam. its not far fetched.. Then from spoilers you have Soldiers in the Fots, you have Godric and Lieutents for the Vampires/AVL.

Anonymous said...

I believe season 2 starts May 3. On imdb, they have that as the air date for season 2, episode 1. It might be wrong, but everything I've read hints that it's coming back in May. And the book is out May 5. So it would make sense that it would be around the same time.

I've watched Season 1 and am on Book 8 of the Sookie Stackhouse novel series. I agree with everyone regarding the lack of luster in Eric's Character in the tv series. But I have to admit, I root for Team Bill! Everyone is giving him the cold shoulder - is there anyone else out there that still likes Bill?

I have to admit, that I started reading the novels after I saw the first season, so I may have a little more connection with Bill then I have with Eric - as he was showcased in the first season. But he has admitted to Sookie so many times how much he loves her - regardless of the Queen ordering Bill to date Sookie, to gain trust in her. For some reason I can't cheer for Team Eric - yes I do like him, but I still and always will have a soft spot for Mr. Bill Compton. BTW: I think the Actor Stephen Moyer is perfect for the Bill character.

Alan Ball has admitted that he would like to keep the story line between the relationship of Sookie and Bill close to the relationship depicted in the novels - so looks like Bill and Sookie won't be together after Season 2. But I think that the Bill and Sookie relationship is what makes the show so exciting! So I hope for my sake that Alan decides to keep that flame growing for at least a bit longer!

But I do enjoy Quinn as well...I think Vin Diesel would be the PERFECT actor to play Quinn hands down!

But I think it would be great for Sookie and Bill to rekindle their relationship. PLEASE?? lol

Can't wait for Book 9 and Season 2 to start - looks like May is ramping up to be a great month!

Anonymous said...

I don't care what happens in season 2, as long as Eric stays as part of the cast. I'm looking forward to later books, like book/ season 4. yum

Anonymous said...

Ive just finished book 8 in the series and I must say that book 1 is the least exciting of them all!!! After watching season 1 I do wish they had kept to the storylines more closely and just elaborated on those. The rest of the books are so much more action packed with multiple characters that I feel they did this because the first book is lacking a little. The books are AWESOME and I could not put them down. I cant wait for the next season.
P.S. Please make the fangs less like halloween stick ons!! I know they can make them more realistic.

Anonymous said...

I have read all 8 books 3 times over and i have to say i love them! Season 1 was awesome even though they changed it a bit. I think the Eric charcter is fantastic! He is my favorite charcter out of the series.I couldn't piture anyone else doing it. Alex is PERFECT!!! Although Quinn is right up there with him. I can't wait to see who they get to play him. I can't wait for season two and book 9.

June 14th is the premiere date for Season 2, this info came straight from AB's desk

I've read a lot of comments on here about the actor they chose to portray Eric's character; it seems that a lot of you don't think that he really looks like the "viking" you had pictured while reading the books. Just to clear things up, I am of norwegian descent (which is where vikings come from), and I can tell you that the actor playing Eric definitely looks like he could be Norwegian. Norwegians aren't superhuman giants, lol. They just tend to be on the taller side, my grandmother is 6 feet tall! The only major difference between Norwegians and other ethnicities is that we have very white skin that typically does not tan, remember Norway is in the arctic circle, and we usually have light blonde hair and blue eyes. I have not read the books yet, but I like the actor that they chose. I can't wait for season two!!!

Stephen Moyer has described the character of Bill (my favorite character) as a "classic tragic figure". This does not hold out much hope for us who are Team Bill. However, since the screenwriters have made so many changes anyway, can they please tinker with Charlaine Harris's lamentable plotline of Bill and Sookie being on the outs for most of the series? Or at least create a happy ending for Bill with someone else? Thank you.

Anonymous said...

**POSSIBLE BOOK SPOILERS (just little ones...)**

I understand those of you who are on Team Bill wanting him to be back with Sookie. It would make him happy. But don't you think she would be bored with him now? I mean, I know he's a vampire (the first she met and therefor kind of exciting) and that doesn't seem boring. But mix him in with other vampires? Boring. And I know he seems so sweet, but when I go back over the books it seems to be that what he really brought to the relationship was a sense of security for her. He didn't even off help her our when she needed money (even though he helps his secret kin) and doesn't seem to understand her need for fun or attention. He is all business. Eric offers protection, he seems to honestly care for her (whether he knows/remembers it or not), he understands how to help her with the things she need (gravel driveway, jacket, etc) without making her feel like a kept woman. Most of all he brings fun and attention and still manages to take care of his business dealings. So that's my case for Team Eric. :)

I do, however, really like Bill and I want him to end up happy with someone. Curious to see how book 9 goes. She's already working on 10, so I don't imagine we'll get all the answers we want right away.

Anonymous said...

Whoah-I read all of the books in about 6 weeks, and I totally pictured Billy Zane as Quinn!!! Anonymous was right on with that one!! Maybe someone important will read this and get the hint!

I noticed with some of the spoilers coming out that Mr. Ball is introducing elements from the book sooner then when they did in the book. also I am just hoping he DOES NOT follow the book because I could not stand a Eric/Sookie hookup.

OK THERE IS MUCH TO SAY I WATCHED THE SEASON 1 OF TRUE BLOOD BEFORE I READ ALL OF THE BOOKS SO THAT MADE MY READING MUCH MORE EXCITING I JUST SO HAPPEN TO LOVE ALL THE ACTORS/ACTRESSES I THINK THEY BRING ALOT OF SPUNK TO THE SHOW NOW ON A BETTER NOTE YES THERE ARE ALOT OF CHANGES FROM THE BOOKS TO THE SHOW'S BUT LET'S THINK ABOUT THIS ONE FOR A SEC. IN THE BOOK'S JASON AND TARA REALLY DON'T HAVE MANY BIG PARTS SO THERE'S THING ABOUT THERE LIFE THAT MUST BE WROTE IN I MEAN THE BOOKS ARE SOOKIE STACKHOUSE NOVEL'S AND THE HBO SERIES IS MORE ABOUT ALL OF THE MANE CHARACTER. AS FOR BILL I LOVE TO HATE HIM IN THE BOOK'S BUT I FIND IT HARD TO HATE IN ON THE SHOW. I LOVE LOVE LOVE ERIC ACTOR AND ALL HE'S GREAT FOR THE SHOW AND FOR ALL YOU BILL LOVER'S OUT THERE YOU ALL REALLY NEED TO REREAD THE BOOKS ERIC IS SOOKIE'S NIGHT IN SHINING ARMOR.

I WILL STOP WATCHING THE SHOW'S IF THEY DON'T FOLLOW THREW WITH THE BOOK'S AS FAR AS SOOKIE AND ERIC GO.

Anonymous said...

First of all, I don't think they should send Bill away. He and Sookie have such great Chemistry and I enjoy watching him. I think Lafayette should turn into a blood sucker. He is a riot and to lose him would be bad for the show. Tara needs to do something exciting and different but get out of the Cinderella life, I liked her better when she was living the real life. She just seems dull now. Jason can join the fellowship becasue his character is dumb enough to. I hope Sam dosn't leave because there are so many more interesting things for him to do. I got through the fifth book and started to get boring, so I hope the mini series does not follow the book. I am now just going to jump to the last book "All Together Dead," just to see if Sookie finally turns. But for heaven sake don't loose Bill.

Anonymous said...

I think Jessica is the key. See in the books, Bill's 'maker' causes the rift between him and Sookie, whether Bill's fault or not;it still happens. Thus drives Sookie on her relationship streak with multiple men etc, etc. Now why introduce Jessica, who will obviously drive a wedge between them, when following the book's storyline there is already someone who serves that purpose.

Unknown said...

I loved all of the books. Eric is the bomb! Sookie belongs with Eric not a tiger, panther, or Bill.
The show is very different from the book. I acutally watched the first episdode of the show before reading the books and did not like it at all. I then read all the books and was then able to follow the show. The show is good because you really don't know what is going to happen even if you have read the books. Tara is not a main charater in the books and V is hardly mentioned at all. All in all I love it the show and book. Even though Eric is the man I am rooting for I want to see who will play quinn. I can't even think of anyone that sexy, his charater ozzes lust and strength.

Anonymous said...

First of all, I hate Jessica. She was not in the book and I couldn't stand watching her bitching about how much she wanted to kill people for fun in the show.

Second, Bill never went into the sun to save Sookie in the book. Now the show has done it to show he would do anything for Sookie, how do they stick with the major plotline that Bill betrayed her and played her big time, which you won't find out until book 5 after Eric forced him to spit the truth to Sookie?

I can't wait or season 2 to see what new elements they put into the show. However, if Jessica becomes a dominate character in anyway in the show, I may throw up.

Anonymous said...

Yeah I don't think anyone is really a fan of Jessica's!

Anonymous said...

I definatly think that Jessica is going to be the wedge between Bill and Sookie that Bill's maker was in the books. Galen Gerig would be perfect as Alcide(if he is even in the next season). As far as Eric goes, I think they picked a perfect actor to play him. I have read all the books and I pictured him the entire time. Just give him a chance. I dont think the kid from Twilight would have been good as Bill because he is too young. Bill is suppose to be in his 30's. I love Anna as Sookie, but the character in the book seems like she would have been a Playboy centerfold. Lastly, I just did not picture Vin Diesel as Quinn. I guess im just not a Vin Diesel fan. I cant wait for season 2 or book 9!

Anonymous said...

I agree that Eric, in the sookie book series, is Sookie's night in shining armor. However in the books there are multiple warnings that vampires are naturally deceitful, so who knows how true Eric's intentions are for her.
I really dislike the character Jessica, just because she's incredibly annoying and seems to have a Buffy teen-bopper edge.

Eric and Pam will get more and more screenplay throughout the series, because in the books they play a predominant role. Also Eric and Pam are some of the main characters introduced in Season 1 that never leave Sookie throughout the books.

So I just went over to Charlaine Harris' site to see if there was a specific day set for the release of "Dead and Gone" only to notice that there's another book coming out in october called "Touch of Dead". So just as season 2 ends, another book will be coming out :D

I just wanted to share my enlightenment

Amy said...

oh and according to amazon, Dead and Gone comes out on May 5th

Ug that kid from twilight wouldn't have been good at all as bill, although he is to young to play bill, bill was only about 28 to 30 when he was turned where as stephen moyer is about 40. i don't really mind though i still think he's really good looking and a good actor, he just needs to pick up that southern accent a bit more.

I love the books and like allot of you wish the show would stick more to the book. I hate Tara's character in the show... ALSO I've only heard a couple people mention ALCIDE! I love him and I hope they have him in the show. I agree with the person who said That soap star, I forget his name now, should play Alcide...

SMALL SPOILER ALERT!

Is anyone who has read past book 5 curious about how they are going implement the changes with Jason into the show??? Because of his ignorance to the supernatural I was SO surprised when that happened...I wont it give away too much but it caught me off gaurd.

Anonymous said...

I bet they will keep that part of Jason's storyline on the show. The reason I think this is because they are already incorperating the actor into storylines he never had just to keep him a main role on the show and they will jump at the real storyline for that fact that they like that character moreso than he is actually in the books (which really isnt much!)

Anonymous said...

I love the show, but I am a bit dissapointed that they are swaying from the original books story line so much. I LOVE ERIC!! I think that Alexander's character is right on the money! And with them changing the story line so much already, how much more are they going to change to "Hollywood" it up. I really cannot stand the made-up Jessica character! Looking forward to Season 2!!!

Anonymous said...

I really like the book and the series. There are some things that I dont like about the series...Tara...even before i read the books i never felt like Tara fit in...now that i read the books she seems to be more of a combination of Kenya(the female cop) and Tara. Yet, she seems awkwardly placed. Im offended that someone said that they dont think the girl that plays Sookie is attractive...I think she is prefect for the role...great body, sweet face...the whole package. Yes, I know the gap in her teeth is not great but I feel it adds realism to her role. Just a side note, back in the 1500s and 1600s a women was considered beautiful because she had a gap in her teeth. I love the women who plays Arlene...that is right on. I do feel that Eric, once he takes a more proactive role on screen will become the Eric we know and love. A lot of times it takes a season or two for the actors to really fall into their roles. People are too quick to judge.

i cannot wait till june!!! i just read LDID for the third time, to get ready and i'm re-watching the last couple episodes of season 1 on HBO. i read somewhere that Ferrell ( or however it's spelt) was Eric's maker. i cannot remember where i read that though. i think they picked the actors DEAD ON for the roles. i do wonder how much they'll follow the story line of the books. i've always envisioned billy zane as quinn :). his eyes are so amazing!!! i hope that jason stops having so much sex, ick! and i also hope that HBO decides to do a season for each book!!!!!! i just love them both so much.

I have read all 8 books and I can't wait for book # 9 that will be out in May. I enjoy HBO's version. I like the fact that although I have read the books they still manage to surprise me with their twist of the novel. I am looking forward to teh eric/sookie/bill triangle =)

rclaurel said...

No it is not, in the show they go for Eric maker..also from the preview of season 2, looks like Bill and Sookie and Jessica are becoming quite the family...so I guess Sookie has excepted Jessica, because she takes her to see her family behind Bills back.....thats why she get out of the car and the creature attacks her..but Bill is right there..

rclaurel said...

Now that Stephen Moyer and Anna Paquin are living together, how will that change the characters, I sure he is not going to like seeing her with different men...but they are actors...I also wonder if AB has something up his sleeve, because he is the one that told them to come out about there relationship, since they have been dating for 2yrs.

Unknown said...

When it comes to Sookie and Bill and their story line, Alan Ball seems mostly to be sticking with the broadstrokes of the story. Even though Stephen and Anna are living together, I don't think that will change their story line. ***If you've not read the books, you should stop reading now... SPOILER*** It seems to me one of the main story lines in the books is the growing connection between Sookie and other guys. Specifically, her connection with Eric. They can't change that without changing the entire tone of the series. Don't you think?

Anonymous said...

Sookie Took Jessica to see her Human Family, without telling Bill,He had to glamor the family almost to in sanity, she is a dangerous creature, she could have Killed the entry family plus sookie, I see nothing wrong with him getting mad, and telling her she undermined his authority as a maker, at least he is showing her the Maker/child bond....Bond..this is smart of
AB creativity, something CH never wrote..

Anonymous said...

Well since AB bought the rights to the Sookie characters, he can pretty much change up the story line how ever he wants.....

Anonymous said...

Oh yeah, he can absolutely do whatever he wants with the characters. But I think that he chose to make this particular series of books a television show because he liked what CH had created. He has taken some creative liscence with the show to create a story from other points of view and to make it compatable for television, but still stuck to the general idea of the series. I don't think Alan Ball is going to make Sookie and Bill stay together if they shouldn't be just to stick to a romantic story line that some of the audience wants (a la Derick and Meredith in Grey's anatomy). If you've read the rest of the series you know that the rest of the books would be hard to play out if he did things just to make the audience happy. Just my opinion. :)

Anonymous said...

I think Bill and Sookie belong together. Yes, he messed up big time...but there were unavoidable circumstances involved! He really ,really loves Sookie..and he truly regrets what he did. I think their love story is true, who knows what Eric;s intentions are. He's a viking, mabye it's all just a large thrill for him to "conquer" Sookie..who knows?? I do really like Eric's character though..just not for Sookie.

I have a feeling (hope) that Charlaine will put them back together in the end...:)

shakkie said...

TV series are never exactly like a book and that also applies to True Blood..the episodes are not the same as the books which is sad for the most part..the first blogger should read the book again. Bill did go to Peru but came back when the witch fight was about to start after everyone met at Pam's house...In bk #3 he was kidnapped on Russells compound...sookie went with the Were Alcide to find him. Go back to the books agian..the producers and director are trying to put their own spin on the series that's why they change it from the book...I'm still a fan of the show..I hope they give Eric more air time...He is exciting in the book with his sarcasms

shakkie said...

I think ERic and Sookie belong together...they have more chemistry than Bill and Sookie even Quinn and Sookie had more spunk that Bill and Sookie...I like the fact that she did play hard to get in the beginning with Eric but as the series go along they belong together

Unknown said...

I absolutely looove Eric. He is so seductive, powerful and utterly irresistable in the book. I hope Sookie ends up with him in the end (in whatever weird way if thats even possible ??). I think the actor they chose for him (alex) is hot. He just hasn't had much screen time to prove himself worty of the role. And I agree with a few of you, Rob was a terrible actor in the ovie Twilight. In fact most of their actors were terrible. Including Bella. They looked inexpirienced. In fact I have noticed that the majority of the ppl who enjoyed had never even read the books. And those that did read the books didn't. Anyway I can't wait until the 2nd season!!
Oh yeah hahhaha to Anna's gap, and she is not that pretty.. BUT I also hoped they didn't cast some blonde-playboy-bunny-airhead look alike with huge boobs (which she doesn't look like)

Unknown said...

It's true that a TV series is never exactly like the books, so that's why I'm not such a huge stickler when it comes to certain scenes or storylines added. But the point of season 1 and the point of book 1 are the same. Yes, some things were added, but it didn't change the general plot. So that's why I think the general idea of the series will be kept the same throughout. They have already said season 2 is based on Living Dead in Dallas (Book 2). So we have no reason to think any different.

I am also a huge fan of Eric's. Not so much from what we've seen so far in the show, but from the books. I think Alex is great though and look forward to season 4 (Dead to the World) with great anticipation. I also think that thus far, the books have been more about them than Sookie & Bill.

Stephen Moyer is great as Bill. I feel bad for Bill because I don't think he's a bad guy. But if someone did all the things to me that he's done to Sookie, I couldn't take him back; I'd never really trust that "something out of his control" wouldn't happen again. I'd be miserable. His fault or not. Is that fair of me? Probably not. But it's realistic. Again, he's not a bad guy but he did what he did.

Anonymous said...

I just dont like Anna Paquin as Sookie. That gap just bugs the hell out of me, it's all I can look at when I see her. Also, she has bad skin. It's just very dull and lifeless, she needs to get a better skin care regimen, a woman her age should have beautiful, radiant, glowing skin, and her's is just so dull.

Hilda said...

I'm not really worried about what they're going to do with the show. I think I like the show better and I'm sure they'll come up with something even more awesome than the first season. In the books Sookie is far too innocent and there's not enough action... The tv show is more dramatic and so much sexier. And of course it doesn't revolve only on Sookie but on Jason, Tara, Sam etc etc as well. I can't wait for the release of the second season!

Well, actually, I just started reading the books (reading number one right one) so I can't tell for sure. But so far I like the TV show better though I do appreciate knowing what Sookie is thinking =P.

I think this is the first time I prefer a tv show/movie over the book. There's always a first, right? x)

Amy said...

so have any of you read the new book, Dead and Gone yet? i just finished it but it was just ok... i feel like it was just one of those filler books that lead to other things but don't have any real meaning in the series.

I can't say whether or not I like th books more than the show. I feel like they're two totally different entities, inspired by the same characters. Which is nice because I can equally enjoy them both. I do my best not to compare. I look for season two to be VERY interesting. :)

I have read Dead and Gone, and I really liked it. I agree that it is a book that is setting up for future books, but I liked it all on it's own. It did end kind of abruptly, but that's kind of expected for this series. I'm really looking forward to the next one.

I've read all 8 books and just finished Dead and Gone. I really liked it, I was about to cry towards the end. I can't wait for A Touch of Dead.

I must say that I like the books better than the show. I hadn't read the books until I started to watch the show, and finishd all books in less than 3 weeks. I could imagine all the faces from the show to the book. I agree with some that Jessica was very annoying. I hope that they can stick to the books more.

I hate how quickly I go through her books. It's like I wait for months to read a book for a day. A friend got me into the Kim Harrison series of witch/vampire books but I'm already done and waiting for more of those as well...

Anonymous said...

I gotta tell you..I really like her books. I started watching the show in January. Afterward, I read her books (have book 9 now).Since then I am excited about her books and season 2 of trueblood. I love Eric. I think if they do a good job in the series, Alexander will grow on us. Then, I read Kitty series, Kim Harrison's witch books, then Jennifer frost night huntress series, then "Mercy Thompson" series. All this writers are great, but Charlene Harris is the best. She makes me laugh..

Unknown said...

Amy - I agree with you. I'm going through all these books too fast. Kim Harrison is also great, so now we have to wait until Spring 2010 for her new one AND the new Sookie. Man!

If anyone wants to discuss the Sookie books (even Dead and Gone) with others, Charlaine Harris has a great website with discussion boards. Even threads discussing other authors people might like. Her website is www.charlaineharris.com. Go to the Q&A with Charlaine link at the top. Be sure and read the rules before posting to make sure you're not posting spoilers that aren't allowed. There are also boards to discuss True Blood on her site. So a little something for everyone who would like to fill some times before Season 2 starts and Sookie 10 comes out. :)

Ive had the books for years now (since they first came out) and loved them very very much.

My favorite characters are Eric, Sookie, Bubba, and Pam.

Im really hoping they will put Bubba in season 2.

Im also kind of sick or always hearing everyone swoon over Bill.. hes not what you think!

I finished book 9 (Dead and Gone) in 4 hours.. I was so excited and pleased with it but am sad now cause I have to wait about a year for the next one to come out!

the show is a whole lot of fun even if they did make Jason a little more free with his love then in the book haha :)
and changed Tara around..
Im so excited to see it (even though overall I know what to expect).

Can someone who has read the books answer some questions for me please? first of all, do Sookie and Bill get back together after their breakup? I hope so, I love Bill. What does he do to her that is so terrible? Also, was Lafayette in the books? And if so, is he the one in the show's season finale that is dead in the car? I'm just dying to find out! I saw on eonline.com that there is some new kind of creature in season 2. It had horns, claws, and it looked kind of like a demon or something, and it attacked Sookie. Supposedly in season 2, these new creatures cause quite a stir in Bon Temps, and even vampires are scared of them. Does anyone know what these things are?
I also saw that someone was talking about how Sookie took Jessica to see her family. Was that in the books? Because it wasn't in the show. Where did you hear that?
Some of you hate Tara, I love her! She's always been one of my favorites, she's funny. I don't like Twilight at all, I think it was a little juvenile, and I don't think the Twilight actors would have been good in True Blood.
Also, if you haven't already seen it, there is a sneak-peek scene from season two on eonline.com
You can see the weird horned creature for yourself there.

*** MAJOR MAJOR BOOK SPOILERS ***

Don't read this unless you want to know all the answers to the questions listed by the poster above this post. Okay, to answer (or try to answer) the questions from the poster above:

1.) As far as Bill goes, he and Sookie do break up. Originally, they break up because he his summoned by his maker (Lorena). He leaves Sookie for her and lies to her about it. He had no choice to go to her if she summoned him, but Sookie is still upset that he lied to her. But the real bad part comes when Sookie finds out that Bill was originally sent to Bon Temps by the Queen to get to know Sookie. Seduce her if he had to. Because the queen had heard about Sookie being able to read minds. Anyhow, Bill say she fell in love with her. But she's obviously very upset. At this point in the series (book 9) they are not back together. But in this last book, Bill and Sookie are a lot closer to being friends again. Possibly more. We'll see.

2.) Lafayette was in the books. His role to this point in the TV series is as it was in book 1. Except that Tara and Lafeyette are not cousins in the books. In the books, he is the one who is dead in the car. Sorry!

3.) The creature in the season 2 preview with the horns... I'm not 100% sure of. In the books it is a creature called a Meanad... It's the same person who was standing naked with the pig that made Tara drive off the road (on TV, not in the books). And they are scary.

4.) The thing about Sookie and Jessica is from a preview. The same one where you see the horned creature. It might be an extended version. Not sure. Jessica is not a character in the books.

Hopefully that answers the questions you had. My advice would be to read the books. 1 thru 8 are in paperback and only coast about $7 each. And they're good to read more than once. I know you really like Bill now. And you might still after you read the books. But Eric becomes a really fun character too. I like him better. I won't go into that because I hope you'll read the books. You can knock out a book every 2 or 3 days if you have time to read.

layfaette is dead. The books r totally different from the show. so no .atter what happens ib the books it probably won't happen in the show. forgive my grammar this is from my phone

Thanks to both of you who answered my questions!
I just have one more question:
Was it really Bill who killed Lafayette? Why didn't he just glamour him instead of killing him? Also, if it was Bill who killed him, does Sookie or anyone else find out that it was him?
Thanks a bunch!

Layfette was killed by peiple who had sex parties in bon temps. they were killed by the menad (the lady with the pig) but in the book this lady doesn't surface until later. like i said b4 it doesn't matter what happened in the book bcause the show does not follow the books. please read them. I have already finished dead n gone that came out this week. the book n the show r different stories
once again excuse the grammar im on my cell

It's true that the books and the show are different. So the answers I gave above are obviously based on the book since that's all I have to go on. I'm not sure how much they'll keep or throw away from the books. To me it seems like they're keeping general plot-lines the same, with a lot of twists, some changes and then entirely new story lines added. Or at least that was the case for season 1. Who knows where it will go from there. I like to read the books and watch the show because you don't get all the answers to what's going on on the tv show from the book. So I'm still surprised at some things that happen.

what do you want to know about Dead and Gone?

I dont know why you people like eric. i say ok bill hurt sookie but isnt that what we(men&women) do. i love to see bill ending up with sookie. i mean in episode 1 he almost die for sookie. now what does that tell us am i right or am i right?

Anonymous said...

I dont know or read much of a true blood book like you people so i aint know anything. But i watch the season 1 movie and to tell the truth i so like bill better i mean he almost die for sookie even after the mean thing she said to him.Doesnt that proove that he is willing to do everything for sookie i am so looking forward for season two. And when you guys said that Bill is summond by his maker thing that i dont even remember her name i bet the movie is gonna get better. Also what the hell do you mean by sookie is having a no some love connection with unnatural creatures that aint gonna be good. And my question get better SOOKIE IS REALLY FALLING FOR ERIC ayyayai this is making me dizzi thats what happend when i dont read THE BOOK.

Anonymous said...

I would say your are defenitly NOT right. I guess since I've read all the books and know how Bill came into Sookie's life. Eric is a lot more forward and he also risks his life for Sookie.

I like the Bill n Sookie relationship, but I like the Erik n Sookie more.

Anonymous said...

The Bill vs. Eric argument is one that can't be won. Eric people love Eric and Bill people love Bill... there's no changing anyone's mind. If you've not read the books at all, I can see why you are a Bill person and don't understand why anyone would be an Eric person. Eric hasn't even had much to do with the story yet. But he turns out to be a really fun and interested character, whether you like him for Sookie or not. Also, I don't remember Bill almost dying for her in episode 1 of True Blood. I remember Sookie risking her life to save Bill from the Rattrays. That's not to say Bill wouldn't (and won't) risk his life to save Sookie. In the last episode of the season, he does. But... GASP... eventually so does Eric (or at least he does in the books.) And, actually, in the books Eric is the one who kills Long Shadow for attacking Sookie. So a lot of the people who have read the books, switch to Team Eric eventually. Not everyone, and Bill is a good guy too. I can see why people are loyal to him. Whether you're an Eric person or a Bill person (or Quinn or Alcide or Sam), you have to admit... these are great characters.

Anonymous said...

I guess if you only watch the show, u will like Bill for Sookie so far. But, for many of us who have read the books, Eric is a better character for Sookie. (some spoilers, so don't read if u don't want to)He has never lied to her that we know of yet. When he lost his memory he was devoted to her, they had great sex..financially, he has been there for her. I am Team Eric.

Anonymous said...

I am also Team Eric. :)

Anonymous said...

Okay seriously Eric is the man for Sook. Anna Paquin is an amazing Sookie. I watched the first season of True Blood and was totally on Team Bill. I went out and bought the first 8 books and after reading them all through twice I am now and Eric fan. What a Vampire. That's all I have to say about that. I am totally interested in what they are going to do with Season 2 I hope that they dont steer too far away from the books. And no Farrell isn't Eric's maker unless this is something Alan Ball is going to make happen in True Blood. Eric's maker is revealed in book 9 and his name is Appius. READ ALL THE BOOKS they are great. Evermore by Alyson Noel a great book, something to get you through... Need by Carrie Jones also quite enjoyable.

Anonymous said...

I also agree that Eric is the man for Sookie. If you read the books Sookie has said Eric "gets her" He is gorgeous, funny and direct. He never lies to her and slways seems to be there for her. Bill may love Sookie, but he just doesn't give her what she needs..Eric has it all plus some...I feel some people are being too hard on the actor playing him..Give him a chance..he's only just begun..

If you think Alexander is not a good Eric or isn't someone you can get into, you should watch the new True Blood promo that is set to the Bob Dylan song. Alex isn't in it for too long, but he looks gorgeous. Sigh...

I want to know where Claudine and Claude come in, to me they are some of the more interesting characters, and way pivotal later on...

I've read all the books, but I haven't read the short stories. Has anyone read them? If so do you recomend reading them? Do they go with the other books?

Anonymous said...

I've not read the short stories, so I don't know how they do or don't fit in with the books as a whole. I have heard that they don't affect the story lines of the books, but are just used to give more insight into the characters. Charlaine Harris has a book coming out in October that is a compilation of all of the Sookie short stories. It's called A Touch of Dead. There are short stories that take place in "Sookieverse", as it's called, but do not included Sookie. Those will not be in A Touch of Dead. Hope that helps.

I hate to be "that person," but after reading your comments and the book synopses (not the books...yet), I looked on wikipedia and found synopses of the first four episodes of season 2, and Sookie and Bill will be taking a road trip to Dallas.

Hi all. I too only heard of this series on HBO and I was in love with Bill. But after devouring the books - I simply can not get enough and Miss Harris needs to write faster - I am for ERIC all the way. He is what he is, as Sookie says, "all male" the sex scenes are smoldering and he is honest. He gives her what she needs, when she needs it most. Bill has not given her anything but lies, big ones, and heartache. The actor they choose for Eric is perfect and Alexander looks even dreamier in season. For any doubter read the books. Especially book for which is mostly Eric and after that I was hooked, in love, etc.... Eric all the way!

Anonymous said...

I don't think the road trip to Dallas is a big surprise to anyone. That's the entire premise of the 2nd book.

Unknown said...

With all the discussion of how the series plotline seems to deviate from the books, I think there is evidence that Alan Ball is still heading the same general direction, and the inclusion of the Dallas trip is one example.

I also have a feeling Sookie and Bill won't be together after this season (although I love their chemistry on the show--plus I just learned that Paquin and Moyer are dating). But who knows.

Unknown said...

I read an interview with Alan Ball on truebloodnet.com the other day. And he says that they are pretty faithful to the books regarding Sookie's storylines, but get to create new stories with Jason, Tara, Sam, etc. So that's good to hear. As long as the broad strokes of Sookie stories are in place, it doesn't matter if they make some changes or additions here and there. I'm really enjoying this series as it's own entity... another permutation of the books.

Anonymous said...

Why are they killing Lafayette off the show. He was sexy as hell and funny. I liked that they did not make him a weak gay character, but instead he had thuggish ways. He was very interesting and made me purchase the season one dvd collection. Bring Lafayette back.

Anonymous said...

But if they are going to continue with Bill and his makers storyline why even bother throwing in Jessica? How many betrayals are they going to give him?

Unknown said...

Who knows if they will actually stick to the Bill/Lorena incident the way it was written in the books. The important parts (in my opinion) are that Bill betrays Sookie, Sookie saves Bill. Although I think it's pretty important (at least to most Bill fans) that his betrayal of Sookie be a little more ambiguous. He HAD to go when Lorena (his maker) called him; he had no choice but to go to her and obey. So his betrayal of Sookie is not so clear cut. But maybe a maker's responsibility to their child (Jessica) is something that we don't know about. I remember, from the books, that Eric and Pam have had sex. So maybe they'll go that direction. Not sure. Or maybe Jessica isn't involved in any betrayal by Bill at all. I'm so curious to see.

Unknown said...

Well, I'm definitely an Eric person. I believe (or hope) that Alan Ball instructed Anna and Stephen to announce their relationship so people would feel there was a happy ending. Alan has said that as far as the storyline for Sookie goes, he will try to stray as little as possible. I hope they combine books, I can't wait for the shower scene from book 4

Anonymous said...

Amber, if you're looking forward to the Eric Shower Scene, go to YouTube and search Alexander Skarsgard Shower... it's a pretty good preview of good things to come. ;)

I would say that Alan Ball is somewhat sticking to books since he did kill Lafayette. I'm sorry but that makes me a bit happy.

I have read all the books and can't wait for more!! I was stuck on the Twilight series until I saw the books in Wal-Mart. Bella and Edward were cute but it left too much to the imagination. I don't know why people compare the books because the Sookie books are more mature and fun. I love the Sookie/Eric romance. Bill might as well take a backseat. Eric may be an ass at times but they have crazy chemistry that Bill can't touch. Bill just happened to be the first vampire she met and her first lover. But, as we find out later in the series, her first night with Eric was THE BOMB!!! Downside is he had amnesia. Upside is that he told her his true feelings for her. The second time, after he got his memory back, was even better. I am Team Eric all the way. It was so messed up when Eric had to make Bill confess to why he even met Sookie and his intentions for her. If he had come clean before Lorena, maybe he would have had a chance. And poor Sam, way out of his league. How can he compete with two vampires--he's a dog for god's sake! I am so interested to see how this love triangle is going to play out in the series and in future books. The last book, I cursed when I got to the end of it. I was really getting into the fae plot. It ended too quickly. And as for the vampire her great grandfather was referring to, my money is on Eric. He does care for her and is there when she needs him. Bill is too busy working. One thing that puzzles me is why she can read Eric's mind when she is not suppose to be able to read a vampire's mind. If I'm not mistaken, when she paid her second visit to Fangtasia, she read his mind. I think she read it again when she was at the Vampire Summit.

Can anyone recommend any more vampire books until the latest Sookie comes out? Does anyone know when a new book will be out?

MrsB108 said...

I dont know about other vampire series, but the Sweeps are a nice series revolving around witchcraft.

So basically people who have only seen the tv show and not read the books are always for Bill(which why wouldn't they be since theres no Sookie/Eric there yet) but from what I can tell from the online community, almost 90% of the stuff I read is in favor of Sookie/Eric.

I just keep my fingers crossed they keep that aspect on the show as well because it would be great to see it visually like that.

@Miss B

I've read Kim Harrison series and MaryJanice Davidson "Undead" books, those'll keep you entertained for a while. And MaryJanice Davidson has several other series' other than just the vampire one. So if you go through those too quickly, you can read her others. And I'd also recommend the Anne Rice Vampire Chronicles, if you haven't already read those. And her Withching Hour books as well.

I have read all the books and love them..After reading the description of the characters in the book I expected Bill to be bigger and darker eyed. Eric was great...Tara didn't exist. Sookie was prettier in the books and the Grandma was a "tiny thing" in the book..I thought Sam was described good-size and hair color...Jason is just creepy in the show...

I hope they bring "Bubba" in on series 2, like in book 2...

I don't thing Vin Diesel would be a good Quinn--he is about a foot too short!! Is he even as tall as Sookie?? I don't think so!!

I thought the show was pretty much like the book, except no Tara whatsoever until later...

Anonymous said...

this series is absolutely amazing. i also hope they carry out the sookie eric relationship in book 4. it was intense hah there are way to many differences from the books compared to what ive seen in previews and from the last episodes of the show. its frustrating.

Anonymous said...

i'm an eric all the way girl.... I have read all the books and i just love them..
I reallllyyyy reallllyyyy hope that that they stick to sookies storyline .. i dont care if they change some of the supporting characters stories, but i want them to keep sookies the same.
Not sure how i feel about Jessica but at the moment i just wish Bill would leave her alone, she has moved on to eric (GO TEAM ERIC). I totally agree with the comments posted on here that if you havent read the books you will be pro bill but if you have you will be pro eric. The books are great. I also cant wait for Claude and Claudine and i hope bubba to make appearances cause they are great characters and will add new dimensions to the show plus add to the hope supernatural progression of the show.
But i have to say that i hope they dont keep it at one book equals one season, because i dont think that it is realistic that with the 10th book coming out that they will be able to keep the show going over 10 yrs, the characters will age and the books dont cover 10yrs So i really think they have to condense and put more than 1 book into a season... my 2 cents worth anyway... I totally cant wait till they do book 4...

Just got through catching up on some posts here... a few things I thought I could actually answer:

* Ms. Harris has said that Sookie's mind reading of vampires (she also read Stan's in Dallas) is completely random. It doesn't mean anything.

* AB has said that he is sticking to Sookie's "basic" story line, but other character's stories will be embellished or created.

* Bubba will not make an appearance as AB can't think of a way to do it that would not be cheesy (Elvis impersonator). Also, it has been said that the Elvis estate would not be happy with The King depicted as a mentally challenged, albeit super sweet, vampire.

Anyhow, those are the things I've read, either from interviews with Alan Ball or Charlaine Harris. Hope that helps answer SOME questions. Looking forward to this Sunday!

Thanks for that Shannon!

And from the First Look that they put out, it seems like they're combining books 2 & 3 for this upcoming season. so that would shorten the amount of time it would take for them to get through all of the books.

I am also a HUGE ERIC FAN!! I am rooting for Sookie and Eric! I love Eric in the books and hope we get to see more of that Eric in the show.

Unknown said...

Also, I don't know if anyone has been going to the HBO website, but everyday they're putting up video posts of the actors answering viewer questions. Actually, the first one was with Alan Ball. Very interesting. I wonder if they're going to be combining books 2 and 3, or if there's just a really long set-up for the 3rd book. I know Lorena comes in, but I keep wondering if that's just to set up a back story so the audience will better understand when the story from the 3rd books starts to unfold. Alan Ball has said that Bill & Sookie's relationship remains pretty strong this season. So I can't imagine they're going through much of the third book this season. Plus there are only 12 episodes.

I am also an Eric Lover. Any other Eric lovers (or Bill or Sam or Quinn) can find like minds on the message board on Charlaine Harris's website. The link is

http://charlaineharris.master.com/texis/master/search/msgbd.html

Be sure to read the rules before you post as certain topics are restricted to certain threads and you must also be careful to respectful of other peoples' ideas, their favorite characters and most of all to Ms. Harris. (This is not he place to discuss your criticism of her books.) There are threads about True Blood, the Sookie Stackhouse books, other books she has written and even threads about other authors various posters have enjoyed reading. You should all go. Even if you don't post, I get a TON of information from her message boards. And just catching up on some posts should get you through the next week waiting for episode 1 of season 2. :)

Only two more days!!!! :D

well I here Eric is going to be bad, just from the first two episode..this is where we learn about his hair he is getting highlights and when he gets blood on his hair, alot of gore.....and Lafayette is alive and when you find out who is holding him in a dungeon, this is total away from the books,,they are using just the Skeleton of the books...

Anonymous said...

I think they were using the 1st boook as a basic line-up for season 1. But you have to remember that True Blood is BASED on the sookie stackhouse novels, it's not going to be totally the same. I think they also followed the books mostly, in season one so they could see which characters were popular, and which wern't. So I assume that is why Miss Jenette shows up later in the shows, because once they saw how popular LaFayette's character was they knew they couldn't kill him off so they created miss jenette so that could make it looks like LaFayette. if you know what I mean.
Really with a TV series they have to flesh out characters and families and such, having Tara have a mom and such, just lends to more storylines and different things. In a book your imagination can fill in part but in TV they have to have everything make total sense and must show everything. I hope you all understand what I mean cuz it's late and I'm tired.
All I really want to say is.....
SPOILER ALERT

I am SOOOO glad LaFayette is still alive!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Yeah I think that was SUPER cool they kept Lafayette alive and very surprising too so that was nice.

And actually I have to say that my favorite parts in the first ep of Season Two was that end scene there with Eric and his highlights and Lafayette cowering in the shadows as the redneck was ripped apart. LOL What a show.

Oh and apparently the ratings were as high as the Soprano's finale ep and for HBO I think thats the limit.

Anonymous said...

STOP with all the damned speculation. The show is BASED on the books by Charlaine Harris...the books are not the Bible for the show so stop trying to compare the books to the show. Hollywood has latitude when it comes to series so stop expecting every little thing in the books to happen in the show. Yes, they have done a good job with the series and I like as much as anyone but take what you read with a grain of salt. Writers have a tendency to make things work for them when translating the series onto the small or big screen...not the other way around. If you read what is written about the series Charlaine has had VERY little to do with the development of the series, it has fallen to Alan Ball who is BRILLIANT. For those who don't know him he helped write American Beauty and the series Six Feet Under and both, however pretentious, were fantastic! Enjoy the books and the series but don't keep comparing them to each other or you'll only be let down.

Anonymous said...

So Agreed! there is no point comparing the books to the show, they're different, and that's the way it has to be. If Alan Ball completely copied the books there would be all Sookie and nothing else, doesn't make for much of a show in my opnion!

Unknown said...

Actually, this whole thread is supposed to be about comparing the books and the show. I believe the question that kicked this whole thing off was about what we thought they would keep and what they wouldn't keep from the books. So speculation and comparing the books is pretty much on-topic. Some people like it what AB done and some people don't. All opinions are allowed. I happen to love the differences, but I have a lot of fun trying to guess what's going to happen and how close they'll stick to the books. No harm in that I don't think.

You guys are WAY too hard on the guy who plays ERIC. He does a wonderful job. If you have never seen the HBO miniseries Generation Kill, your missing out. Alexander Skarsgard puts on a great performance and I'm pretty sure that's the role that opened up the worlds' eyes to his talents. He is NOT a "pretty boy" like all of you are sayin(watch G.Kill). And this is commin from a dude. BTW Anna Paquin is georgous, Beautiful body. NOT too much sex scenes. If I have to deal w/ seein Jason shirtless every episode, then u can deal w/ the sex scenes.

If the director had to write the script for true blood exactly like Charlie Harris books, then Sookie should have been involved in all the scenes, as she is the one telling the story in the book. As a veiwer, I would not particularly want to see the same person being involve all in the actions.

The show is such a hit because it's challenge us to predict the outcome ( What will happen?)

the show is such hit because it's tease us with something that we don't know...

#Think of all the bad films you've sat through just to get the answer to that nagging question#

True Blood is a great script designed so that every scene is a Turning Point, which hooks us on our curiosity. The audience wonders, What will happen next? and How will it turn out?

I am glad is not exactly like in the books even thought I love the characters in books. True Blood to me is powerful enough to keep US watching even when WE seems to know better.

Anna Paquin is the total weak spot on the show. I didn't read the books but LOVE the show. She is not beautiful and here attempted a Cajun/Southern accent is like listening to nails on a chalkboard. I've a few of my friends about her too and we all don't get it. Why the fuss? I think the woman who played the Preacher wife Anna Camp, would of been better. Paquin is a "big name", she did win an Oscar, but has a child. Will say this - when she decided she would do nudity, she went all out. She's naked all the time now.

What I like about the show is all the "vampire politics". Cracks me up - "sheriff's, queens, PR people" - great. I wish they would go into that a little bit more - like who decided for vampires "to come out", etc.

Spoilers

One thing people seem to forget about Bill is that the Queen not only told him to addict Sookie to his sex and blood but get her involved in the shader darker side of there world. The drainer were setup understand that. They were a device to get Sookie to rescue Bill and to get her involved in covering there murders(in both the books and the tv show)And before there deaths to give Bill an easy way to get her to drink his blood.
That pretty damded Evil Right there but there more.
Understand that means He might of been standing there Watching her get beat up so he could addict her and save her.(this is a guess and it's probably wrong but Sookies got wonder given the former being true and worse in her world view.Conditioning her to be a killer.Being beat up she could forgive but helping to shape her into excepting murder? )
He Killed her Uncle the pervert (had it coming but also to bind her to murder and get her used to his world Again pretty damed sneaky and Evil) You see Bill problem is Sookie found out that bill would never of told her and he was so good at lying to her that she never suspected a thing. And she knows He could do it again. She can not read his mind.
Eric has a sense of honor and come off as a sneak and she knows not to trust him. Erik is a guy who trick her into marriage but dose not shock her she kind of laughs it off with a I should of known better and this is not so bad.
Eric She knows puts her safety well being and honor before god man and his family and his own life. Bill dose not nor dose any other man in her life. Bill would only sacrifice Sookie for the world for the greater good (ex: to save a bunch of kids from a fire),She understands that and agrees with it, Eric would with no doubts or hesitation even if she hated him for it would sacrifice the whole world himself included and every child in it to keep Sookie from harm And she disagrease with it And loves him for it.
This is the difference Bill Loves Sookie and feels bad that he had to do bad things to her and lie to her for there good. And Bill Wants people to see him as good. And a hero!

Eric will smile and Say to Sookie he did bad things for her and to grow up.And that he is not sorry nor will he lie after the fact (before to get his way but not after)And Eric does not give a rat arse what any one thinks of him except that he's scary so he can do his job keeping what's his safe(except Sookie Who Knows)
