“Supernatural” fans are in for quite a ride as the popular series kicks off its fourth season Sept. 18. Actor Jim Beaver, who plays Bobby Singer, said viewers should brace themselves for even more of the unexpected.
In an exclusive interview with Rabid Doll, Beaver said fans can count on “twists that folks aren’t going to be expecting at all.”Although Beaver wouldn’t elaborate too much on this season’s plotlines, he did spill the beans on one surprise that even caught him off guard.
“I get to drive the Impala,” he said. “I was shocked when I saw that scene coming up!”
Beaver said there’s no doubt Dean, played by Jensen Ackles, will be upset, but he’s certain forgiveness will be forthcoming. “I think Dean will forgive Bobby, because it was in the process of saving Dean’s life.” Still, the car might never be the same. “It’s got my fingerprints all over the steering wheel.”

Beaver is a veteran actor whose credits date back to the 1970s. Beyond his role as Bobby, Beaver is widely recognized as Whitney Ellsworth from the HBO series “Deadwood.” He also took on the role of Vietnam Joe in the failed HBO series “John from Cincinnati.”
Bobby is one of Beaver’s most favorite characters played to date, he said.

“I love playing Bobby,” he said. “A lot of people have asked me how he differs from me. We’re very similar, but he’s a lot braver. I’ll play Bobby as long as they’ll let me. He’s too much fun to let go of.”
Beaver said half the fun of playing Bobby comes from the camaraderie found on the set.
“I just love being snarky with the boys (Ackles and Jared Padalecki),” he said. “It’s sort of reflective of our off screen banter … the only thing missing from our real life relationship that is present on the show is the seriousness and the danger. The affection we have for each other, the back-and-forth banter and the humor, all of that is very similar to what’s between (us) onscreen and off screen.”

As “Supernatural” gears up for its season four debut, Beaver encourages those who haven’t checked it out to do so.
“I don’t think anywhere else on television you’re going to see this kind of mixture of humor and emotion and thrills and scares,” he said. “It’s a show that’s very accessible to anybody who might be jumping in fresh.”
Although there are no guarantees when it comes to shows and their futures, Beaver anticipates “Supernatural’s” will remain bright. When asked about a season five for the show, he said: “I have every confidence that there will be one. The show has such a devoted following.”
