USA Network's Hit Series Premieres Friday, August 7, 2009 at 10pm
PASADENA, CALIFORNIA August 5, 2009 USA Network announces today an all-star lineup of guest stars, including WWE Superstar John Cena, for the hit series PSYCH, premiering its fourth season this Friday, August 7th at 10/9c. The announcement was made by Jeff Wachtel, president, original programming, USA Network and co-head, original content, Universal Cable Productions.
The roster of guest stars also includes such notables as James Brolin, ("Catch Me If You Can," "Hotel"), as Hank, a sheriff in an old Western town with a history of vandalism where recent sightings of the Ghost Rider have occurred; Cary Elwes, ("The Princess Bride," "Twister") a notorious international art thief; Emmy Award-winner Christine Baranski ("Mamma Mia!," "Cybill"); Sendhil Ramamurthy ("Heroes") in a Bollywood-themed episode; and the return of Rachael Leigh Cook ("She's All That," "The Babysitter's Club") as Shawn's girlfriend, Abigail.
WWE Superstar John Cena, featured weekly on the ratings' phenomenon "WWE Monday Night RAW," has been a staple of the WWE family since 2002. His career highlights include World Heavyweight Champion, WWE Champion, U.S. Champion, World Tag Team Champion and the 2008 Royal Rumble Winner. In 2006, he starred in "The Marine" with Robert Patrick and Kelly Carlson and most recently starred in "12 Rounds" directed by Renny Harlin. Cena will play Ewan O'Hara, a special ops soldier and brother to Maggie Lawson's character, Detective Juliet O'Hara on PSYCH. In this episode entitled "You Can't Handle This Episode" he will help solve the murder of two soldiers and take down an officer involved in weapons trading.
In addition, PSYCH will air "Let's Get Hairy," a special werewolf Halloween-themed episode co-written by James Roday and guest starring David Naughton ("An American Werewolf in London") along with Joshua Malina ("IN PLAIN SIGHT," "The West Wing"). In another special episode, "The Devil is in the Detailsand in the Upstairs Bedroom," Ray Wise ("Reaper," "Twin Peaks") is cast as Father Westley at a Catholic school where the devil needs to be exorcised.
PSYCH follows the adventures of young police consultant, Shawn Spencer (Roday), who solves crimes with powers of observation so acute that the precinct detectives think he's psychic. Spencer is joined by his best friend and sidekick Gus (Dul Hill) and his emotionally distant, but loving father (Corbin Bernsen), who ironically was the one who honed his son's "observation" skills as a child. Also featured are Timothy Omundson ("Judging Amy," "Deadwood"), Maggie Lawson ("Crumbs," "Inside Schwartz") and Kirsten Nelson ("Everwood").
PSYCH is executive produced by Steve Franks ("Big Daddy"), Kelly Kulchak and Chris Henze, with Universal Cable Productions in association with Tagline Pictures. Mel Damski ("Picket Fences") also serves as executive producer and director. Saladin K. Patterson ("The Bernie Mac Show") and Bill Callahan ("Scrubs") are co-executive producer/writers.
