LOST Sneak Peeks!

SPOILERS!

Melanie in Auckland, New Zealand: Lost scoop, please, hopefully about which character is dying.

We hit a Lost writers event last week at the Writers Guild Foundation in Beverly Hills, and when asked about character deaths, awesome Lost exec producer Eddy Kitsis told the audience, "We arc out characters, so we know who will die and when they die. I will say when it comes to those episodes, sometimes it's very hard to let go, and you'll start saying [in the writers' room], 'I know we planned all season for Charlie to die, but…what if he didn't? Maybe Charlie lives.' And that's how we know how it's good—because if we're having this emotional reaction over losing these characters, hopefully you will, too." For the record, we will have a Charlie's-death-level emotional reaction to the character death at the end of season—there will be wailing, rending of garments and general grief. The writers probably had plenty of doubts about whether or not it was really a good idea to kill this particular character.

Cooper Lee in Rhode Island: Any Heroes news?
As we tipped in last week's Heroes Redux, the bad guys are building a concentration camp for Heroes. Greg Grunberg told us, "They built that in the snow, all of those bunkers. It's very creepy and it's very cool." BTW, now is a good time to tell you that without Kristin here, we don't have enough staff to do the Heroes Redux every single week, so while it will continue, it won't be a going concern week in and week out.

Ariel in Baltimore: Will Ruby or Anna be regulars next year on Supernatural? I want the guys to finally start building families of their own!
While Castiel (Misha Collins) is confirmed to be a regular for Supernatural season five, all we can say about Anna and Ruby is that there are a couple deaths in the finale, and that Sam's demon girlfriend and Dean's angelic friend with benefits are not guaranteed to be safe.

Marta in Porto, Portugal: Are we going to see John Winchester this season on Supernatural?
Not in the flesh, and not even in the spiritual realm, but we do see John Winchester on Supernatural in photographic form before the end of the season.

Sandy in Addison, Texas: Any news on Burn Notice?
There will be several deaths as soon as the show returns. "There's already been a couple. We're about three episodes in, and there's been one funeral too many," Gabrielle Anwar told us at the Genesis Awards. As for Michael and Fiona, the romantic pair won't be able to keep away from each other, "I think it's inevitable for those two. They can't live with each other, they can't live without each other. It's like real life, isn't it?" says Anwar.

Amanda in Tennessee: House scoopage, please? Does someone commit suicide? Which episode? Give us something, anything, new.
We can only say that the House character death is permanent (he or she will not be back next season), and that the castmember did not want to leave—it was a creative decision.

BSG Alternate Ending?

Battlestar Galactica executive producer Ron Moore has been discussing last week's series finale with fans on the BSG forum, where he dropped an interesting tidbit about an ending that might have been.

In this version of the story, the Galactica herself ends up on Earth instead of being flown into the sun, and she also manages to show up in our present-day timeline:

"There was a point in the development process where we discussed the idea of the Galactica not being destroyed, but having somehow landed on the surface more or less intact, but unable to ever get into orbit again (the particulars here were never worked out, so don't ask how she made it down without being torn apart). We talked about them basically abandoning the ship and moving out into the world.

"Cut to the present-day in Central America where there are these enormous mysterious mounds that archeologists have not been able to understand (it may have been South America, I can't recall the exact location, but these mounds really do exist). Someone is doing a new kind of survey of the mounds with some kind of ground-penetrating radar or something and lo and behold, we see the outlines of the Galactica still buried under the surface."

Moore said they ultimately didn't go with the ending because they wouldn't have been able to reconcile it with the "reality" of the series.

"It was an intriguing idea and we bandied it about for a while, but ultimately rejected it as a little too cute and also felt that it would violate our contemporary reality, in essence 'branching off' the BSG story in 2009 into an parallel reality where a battlestar was discovered in Central America. I wanted the end of the show to directly relate to us, not to a world where that event had occurred."

Vampire Diaries Casting Scoop!

Casting of the three leads is now complete on the CW pilot Vampire Diaries, and not a moment too soon. I was just about out of puns.

Paul Wesley, who played an angel on ABC Family's Fallen, this time has a bit of the devil inside him, having been cast as Stefan, one of two vampire brothers fighting over the central heroine, Elena.

Wesley's character, says the Hollywood Reporter, is a "gloriously, amazingly, especially beautiful young man." He is also 200 years old, though his MySpace page claims he's only 17.

Starring as Vampire Diaries' Elena is Nina Dobrev, while Lost alum Ian Somerhalder earlier this week was cast as Stefan's brother, Damon.

LOST Romance Scoop!

Juliet & Sawyer: Going strong. Season five is Lost's bizarroverse season, and Lost will devote a lot of screentime to the left-field pairing of Suliet through the end of the year.

Juliet & Jack: Sorry Jacketeers, but at least in season five, these two are going nowhere fast.

Sawyer & Kate: Over the next batch of eps, Sawyer and Kate get under each other's skin, but probably don't actually get into each other's pants. (That's OK, Skaters—there's always fanfic.)

Jack & Kate: The series' original couple always has each other's backs. But do they make the beast with two backs again this season? Doubtful.

Jin & Sun: Jun don't reunite until closer to the finale, but that wedding we told you about? Word on the street is that it's a flashback to the Kwon nuptials. Yay!

SPOILERS!

Question: I'm so excited about the return of Chase and Cameron on House! Do you have any insider info on what they'll be doing? --Leigh
Ausiello: Do Twitter feeds qualify as insider info? 'Cause on March 16, Omar Epps and a bunch of his House cronies were tweeting about a big bachelor party scene that was being shot that day, fueling speculation that Chase is about to march down the aisle with Cameron. Sounds plausible to me. In related news, I'm on Twitter, too! (Come on, I had to go there.)

Question: Any truth to your frenemy's report about a big death coming up on House? --Drew
Ausiello: Yep, there's a lot of truth to it.

Question: Is Elizabeth Mitchell leaving Lost? It will break my heart if she does. --Cristiane
Ausiello: I address the murky Mitchell situation in this week's EW (on sale Friday), but this much I can tell you now: Juliet will definitely appear on Lost next season.

Question: Any Smallville finale spoilers that don't involve the Grim Reaper? --Graham
Ausiello: The fight scene between Doomsday and Clark is going to be big. One might even call it ginormous.

Question: Any clues on the Smallville vet getting killed off in the finale? --Brad
Ausiello: The **r*** ***** ** *** *****.

Question: Will Rhys Coiro (Sean) be back on 24? --Bob
Ausiello: I have a hunch Sean will likely remain lawyered up and out of sight for the rest of the day. A really good hunch (wink, wink).

Question: There appears to be agreement amongst most Bones fans that the ridiculously adorable Wendell must be crowned Brennan's permanent grad student. (I mean, come on! The guy geeks out with Brennan and the Squint Squad and he’s Booth’s hockey buddy? How can you say no to that?) Any idea as to when we'll see the end of rotating-intern-palooza? --Olivia
Ausiello: Maybe never. "As of now we're going to continue to rotate them," says exec producer Shane Brennan. "We were looking back at all the interns we used this season and trying to figure out who would work out best, and we can't make a decision. We love them all. And I think [the variety] has really helped the show a lot, because fans have their favorite, so people tune in to find out who's going to be on that week. Also, we've been extremely lucky with the actors we've cast. Everybody our casting director Rick Milligan has brought in could easily be a regular on our show, and that's a very rare thing to find. It seems like we have a permanent cast of players now."

Question: Bones scoop? --Stephen
Ausiello: "Sweets and his girlfriend wind up in bed with Booth and Brennan," reveals e.p. Shane Brennan. Okay, he's kidding, but an upcoming episode will find the quartet in an awkward situation. "Booth and Brennan think Sweets' girlfriend is getting married to somebody else and hasn't told him," says Brennan. "It's a bit of a Bridezilla episode that takes a look inside the wedding industry."

Question: Can you please give me some good news about The Sarah Connor Chronicles. --D'rick
Ausiello: I'm hearing rumblings that a major male character will be killed in the season (series?) finale. Also, one of the women in John's life will leave him. Another will betray him.

Question: Please give us a hint about the big death in the Lost finale. --Bill
Ausiello: Just this one: That's not what people will be talking about the next morning. Trust me.

Major LOST Finale Rumor!

Monk Scoop!

Monk's original Girl Friday is returning to bid him adieu.

Bitty Schram has finalized a deal to reprise her role as sidekick to Tony Shalhoub's obsessive-compulsive detective during Monk's eighth and final season, sources confirm to me exclusively.

Schram left Monk midway through the show's third season reportedly due to a contract dispute. Producers, however, insisted at the time that they simply wanted to take the show in a different direction. Whatever triggered her exit, it's apparently water under the bridge.

"We couldn't think of a better way to help wrap up the series than with the return of Bitty's character," said Shalhoub. "Bringing some closure to Sharona is long overdue."

Monk explained Schram's absence by having Sharona move back to New Jersey with her son and ex-husband, Trevor. It's not clear how she'll be reintroduced, but a show insider says her visit will be brief: Schram's only slated to appear in one episode.

SPOILERS!

I miss seeing Jack and Juliet together on Lost. Is there anything to look forward to? — Maria
MATT: It's a good thing spring has sprung, because, I am sad to say, it looks like you won't have any "Jacket" to keep you warm. When I asked Elizabeth Mitchell about what's ahead for Juliet and Jack, she said, "We very rarely have anything to do together anymore, but we do have a few moments, and they are very rich and full." So get while the getting is good, 'shippers.

Are we ever going to meet Dr. William Bell on Fringe or is he just a red herring? — Rob
MICKEY: Get ready, Rob! "I can't wait to see who it is, how it's revealed or what he represents or where he comes from," John Noble told us of the identity of his former partner in weird science. I'm hearing Dr. Bell will be ID'd in the finale, but that he might not be formally introduced in his first appearance, which could be sooner. So keep your eyes peeled.

Will there be a "New Generation" for Battlestar Galactica? — Sheryl
MICKEY: What the frak, Sheryl?! They just made it to "Earth." Give them a little time to craft tank tops from gazelle hides and figure out which animalistic grunt will be considered a broadcast-safe profanity. In the meantime, we'll see the BSG miniseries The Plan, which will fill in some Final Five backstory from a Cylon perspective, in the fall. The prequel series Caprica won't debut until 2010, but you can buy the pilot episode on DVD next month, at which time hopefully we'll learn why Eric Stoltz and Esai Morales are always wearing fedoras.

Is it true that someone is leaving House at the end of the season? If so, I'd love to know who, or at least get a few hints. — Amanda
MATT: Yeah, a lot of people have been playing catch-up ever since Katie Jacobs told me (back in January) that House's team will be down a person come season's end. Jacobs also said that the events of the finale, like last year's, will have a profound impact on House himself. Having screened next week's Mos Def-initely excellent episode — and in light of recent death/suicide rumors — I can foresee a future where the increasingly put-upon Taub takes his own life, right in House's office. Hmm, might that make Dr. Nasty's demeanor less mean?

Will Heroes' Peter ever get his real power back, where he can absorb multiple powers? — Daniel
TIM: "There are basically two directions," says Heroes' Hiro, Masi Oka. "A lot of people are getting new levels to their powers. Like Matt Parkman, who can now draw the future. But people like Peter and Sylar perhaps have become too powerful, so they're trying to scale it back down." You can read Adam Bryant's full interview with Oka here.

Is there a chance that someone from Firefly will be playing Dollhouse's Alpha? Any Dollhouse scoop, really, would be über-appreciated! — Becca
MATT: We're not supposed to know who's playing Alpha, for what (if you stop to think about it) are obvious reasons. So out of respect for Joss Whedon's storytelling, I'll sidestep your first question. On the scoop front, I'm wondering if Echo's alley-fight reveal to Ballard — that someone on "the inside" is trying to help him — was truth-telling or a bit of misinformation planted by Adelle. Here's what Whedon said when I ran that by him: "You can go ahead and wonder that, but for now I'd take it at face value."

Kings is the best new series in years!!! Give us some scoop! — Giovanni
MICKEY: Ciao, Giovanni, cosa fai? Those Benjamin kids have a lot of secrets, huh? Remember how King Silas expressed his disgust for what Prince Jack (aka the royal pain in the ass) does "with his boys at night"? You'll soon find out that there are at least three possible interpretations of that phrase.

Bones Romance Scoop!

So, it looks like Booth and Brennan will get their bedroom time this spring after all. No doubt they have their vocal fans to thank for it.

As I reported last Thursday, because of President Obama's prime time address tomorrow night, "Bones" is in danger of losing a whole hour of its season to accommodate "American Idol"'s schedule. And as of late last week, FOX's tentative plan was to push "Bones"' season finale -- which includes the long awaited Booth and Brennan hook up -- to fall.

However, it seems the tentative plan has been tweaked.

Though FOX is not commenting on "Bones"' schedule, insiders tell me that a revised version of their spring lineup was released earlier today and though "Bones" will indeed lose an episode this season, the finale hour is no longer the one marked for postponement. Instead, they've axed ep 4.18 "Beaver in the Otter" (otherwise known on fan sites as ep 4.24, episode numbers are wonky this season due to several year 3 episodes being pushed last spring).

Perhaps the network peeped some of the fans' helpful suggestions and decided to take their feelings into account.

Of course all schedules are subject to change, but I will monitor the situation and keep you updated.

Assuming the current plan stands, are you satisfied? Or are you pissed that you're still probably losing an hour of "Bones" this season?
